An Internet forum is a web application for holding discussions and posting user content. Internet forums are also commonly referred to as web forums, message boards, discussion boards, discussion forums, bulletin boards, or simply forums. For the sake of consistency I'll use the term forum in this tome. The terms "forum" and "board" may refer to the entire community or to a specific sub-forum dealing with a distinct topic. Users may select these messages to be displayed either in chronological order or as threaded discussions. A forum typically has a theme and in our case the theme is downtown improvement districts.

Additional topics, frequently called threads, are added as time, and member interests, dictate. Topics help to narrow the focus to specific areas of member interest. There is no limit to the number of topics. To illustrate, there might be a named “Starting a Downtown Improvement District” another might be “Sources of Funding.”

The underlying purpose of our forum is collaboration and information sharing. The member base of Downtown New Jersey has a vast knowledge base. Our forum is designed to tap that body of knowledge. Since posting to the forum remains in place for

Although some forums allow anonymous posting the DNJ forum requires registration before a user can post, or respond to a post. Registered members of a forum are identified by a unique member-selected username. Users select their own password. Passwords are stored in encrypted format and cannot be retrieved. However, the administrator can assign a new password.
The operational parameters of the DNJ forum are highly configurable. Users may be given additional privileges, such as the ability to edit their previous posts, start new topics, and control their individual settings and profiles. As the use of the forum expands and users become more experienced the forum administrator may change user privileges.

User profiles tend to include signature blocks which are appended to their future posts. Members also have the ability to send personal messages to each other.

Enjoy!
